finaly a 4cyl section, although it may take time to become a fast moving thing. anyway one to the point of this thread. I needed some where to post the progress of the build and the other forums are full of the same stuff, so i figure here is a good place. It all started when i was GIVEN a pair MK1 escorts. one as a none rolling shell, the other as a roller with a few extras like glass some lights and few other bits. I also scored a MK1 panel van with a 4spd box and 1600 pushrod engine. Over time I've rounded up a few other bits like a semi complete MK2 2 door, a 2L zetec engine from a 1998 mondeo, and a number of 1600 engine and 2L engine and parts. the plan is to build a road registered car to run in the local hill climb and spint races. So far work has revolved around stripping the needed parts from the donor cars, and getting the shed ready to take the shell that the build will be based on. here are the pics this is what my place looked like about 3 months ago. the brown car is gone after donating anything that wasn't rusted. including boot lid, bonnet, heater 'bubble' from engine bay, glass and few small item. the green panel van is 3/4 stripped now, though to clear up some space i might do a front cut on it and store the front end in my container. the red MK2 will give up it's front end and it's diff Last edited by tickford_6 on Thu Dec 17, 2009 7:16 pm, edited 3 times in total. |

mild cam upgrade and some side drought carbs. I'll have to make the extractors and run a programable igntion, looking at a megajolt, as it will run the mondeo coils and use the mondeo crank sensor.
should be good for about 180hp. at less then a third the cost of builing a 180hp pinto. |

talk about a slow moving forum. lol
progress has been set back by another week. a good friend of ours came home from a work trip to find half the sump oil from her magna on the driveway. so this weekend i'll be sorting that out for her and doing nothing on the escorts at all. at this rate it'll never be done |

What is the panel van body like, other than the standard heater box rust and maybe floor due to that rust.
I would love to own another Esky panel van for a run around, cheap to own and much fun.

not really.
the van has been front cutted. so i can dump the rear section after removing all the turret steel. (to make rust repair sections) but with the baby, the house (kitchen) and the patrol. there has been little time or money to spend. my last spare $2000 went into the patrol. when i get the escort on the build rig, which i need to do as there is alot of low cost prepwork i can do while money is a little tight. i'll post all the picks and info. i'll also be in hospital soon to have my gall bladder taken out. I've spent most of the past week in stupid amounts of pain. |

go the escorts \m/
ive built a mkII van. and i have a mkII ghia and i had a mkI 4 door. i did have all 3 at once but after my big brother rolled his car i gave up the mkI for free as he was broke and couldnt afford a car. Attachment: mk2 ghia.jpg Attachment: Party bus.jpg i dont have any pics of the mkI on my computer, i'll try to find some. some of you may remember seeing it. i also have a MINT TF cortina. really low kays. picked it up for $500. but due to complications it had to be unlisenced. so now im stripping the rear brakes and the 2L and dropping in a 302 windsor and turning it into a burnout car. ill post up pics of it later on. i still own the van and the ghia. its a shame the mkI van is too far gone. theyre pretty rare. keep the updates coming. with pics You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. |

You will need to make/buy engine mounts, Get the one that weld to the chassis rails. extractors, these can be bought from the UK but may be cheaper to have custom made a water rail for the thermostat, the original is bolted to the back of the head and will hit the firewall, You can buy these from retroford and maybe Burton power in the UK.(best to by these not make them) conversion flywheel, If you donor car is a manual you can mix and match the Zetec pressure plate with a pinto friction plate. Otherwise just buy a flywheel that will take a complete pinto clutch. Carbs or injection? Burton do a manifold to use DCOE webers or EFI throttle bodies with the weber flange. the stock plastic intake manifold wont fit an escort, you can get fabricated plenum intake from the uk there are two types of water pump. one of them spins the wrong way for use in an escort. make sure you use the right one. the rod bolts are weak. and shouldn't be reved over 6800rpm. you cna fit ARP bolt with out striping the engine. you just need to remove the sump. with good bolts the rods are good for 7500rpm. The sump will need modding to fit, but i suggest buying the retroford one i think i've covered it all. |
