Hi all, there was a few topics about this on the site but i couldnt find anything or anyone that had done it with specific instructions. So i thought id experiment a bit with this. I bought some old fairlane seats off ebay that where pretty much rubbish, i didnt worry too much as all i wanted initially was the metal frame as initially i wanted to swap over the entire metal frame with my cushions and trimmings, but the seats where in real bad condition, and not to mention people have said rear seats are not a straight swap from a LWB to a SWB. Not to mention the materal for the centre armrest that i didnt want. Anyway so i ripped the trimmings off the old seats and found there was a metal bracket welded to the seat where the actual head rest fits in place, i thoughf it i can grind this off and fitted it to my seat then problem solved. (as per pik 1)

anyway so i got the grinder out and cut this part off the old seats, i then took my trimmings off carefully and then screwed/ pop rivetted these metal brackets onto my seat frames (dont have a wleder). the hardest part was fitting the trimmings back on neatly, a few cuts on my hands later and they where on nice and tight again. Then i just fitted the plastic trimmings for the two steel rods that go into the chair and that was it. This really was pretty straight foward and thought id share my 'idea' with you guys. Probably been done before but i hope this information is helpful to someone. I love the look of these head rests in the car and didnt want to change my trim!

For a long time I've actually wanted to chop an old rear head rest in half and install it as a middle head rest in my Fairmont. One day...

I can imagine taking the trim off and putting it on again would of been a realll b**ch of a job.
