Hi all,

Went and saw an XE ute (manual) in bits, guy is asking $500 for it. Missing front guards and bucket seats and doors.

Any idea how much sandblasting costs? What preparation is required for it?

It has a gas tank aswell will this need to be removed?

Just need to get an idea on costs before purchasing and then having a heap of metal lying around the house. We all know about those type of Project cars....especially the missus...

Cheers

how far are you going to go with sand blasting, the whole car/under carriage or just the exterior panels?

I don't know about a price for sandblasting a car, however a couple of years back I had a 6x4 box trailer sandblasted for $130 including undercoating.

I was thinking of doing the whole car if it needed it. I am just sizing up my cost options to see if the project ute would be worthwhile.

Sounds like I have to budget at least $1000.

ive been told roughly around 500 to get a sedan sand blasted, outside panels only, but im not 100% sure. I am going the sand blasting route as it is just a lot easier then sanding/ paint stripping, and at the end of the day after purchasing material/ tools wouldnt be that much dearer.

I had my XY 4x4 completely sandblasted and in etch for $800 on the Gold Coast 2 years ago. Very effective way to warp otherwise straight panels, be careful who and how you get to do it. Some guys just blast away like their doing a piece of industrial equipment and end up overheating large areas of panels causing them to warp and stay that way. I would suggest just getting the door apertures, engine bay, window frame, sills and tray areas done and save yourself the hard yards of repairing more than you started with, and go the old fashioned elbow grease to get the rest nice, clean and straight. Happy restoring!!
