Try not to assume an XR6 engine is BETTER than a standard 4.0 just because they're tickford and written on paper as being a performance motor.

They're pretty much the same in real world comparisons, The Inline 6 is quicker than the 8 and can tow marginally better.

Saying that, you can make a 302 windsor scream with a little bit of work.

It all comes down to what you want to do with it and for how long.

Well today i was a bit bored and went down to pick a part and saw an EB XR6 there. I got excited and bought the ECU, (catch code 2DBD 92DT-12A650-BD) for my EB II Fairmont. Anyway ive installed it in my car and can confirm that the climate control, trip computer etc all works the same. The car has a little bit better pick up i feel but nothing ball tearing.

Yep started straight away. No issues. You will only have a problem if you change the smart lock module.

Here is a pic of the current torque curve of my ED 4.0..std cam & valve springs, std log manifold, Pacie 4480's. That is 4th gear, from 55kmh to 175 kmh.....250ft/lb.

my el monty ghia smashed her share of falcons and vz commodores lol .
she even chopped with an el with a tuned j3 and I636 cam .
although said el gained very fast in mid range ,more than i would have been able accelerate at the time.
must be the 3.45 diff in the monty that ties it all together and keeps it in front ?
i have also found the 6 to be quicker than the 8 but doesnt sound anywhere as good .
twas figured out back in the nineties iirc cause i cant be botherd searching for the magazine the xr8 did 6 or 7 .8 0-100km and the xr6 was like .3 quicker.
