to make the pump work backwards u would need to have an impeller made in the opposite direction to whats there now. u would also need to fabricate a thermostat housing setup for the bottom hose
and run a spring inside the top radiator hose instead of the bottom. |

what about later models. is there a cleveland water pump driven with a serpentine belt, it would nearly have to run anti-clockwise? are the flutes on the impeller eliptic or straight, if they are straight it should not make any difference wich way the pump goes? just trying to find an easy way of doing this.

heres a pic of the impeller setup, on the 4 pic
i cant see how u could get water to flow the other way. u would have to modify the channels in the pump housing too http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XY-GT-V8-CLEVELA ... 230609c654 have u looked into electric pumps like meziere etc that way u can bypass the pulley all together |

The water pump on EA to ED I6's spins same direction as crank, clockwise, but on EF/EL/AU onwards, they spin backwards ( driven by the back of the fan belt ), as are the water pumps on the later EFI Winsdors.

I was working on an adaptor plate to run a short serpentine belt windsor pump on a cleveland but I have sold said cleveland so I stopped. As you probably know most of the bolt pattern is the same between W and C engine so using a short pump(ie EB-EL or AU) from a 5.0 leaves enough room to make an adaptor plate. The most difficult part of the exercise is the bypass which on a C is internal and on a W is through an external hose.
If you don't want to go to the effort and run the serpentine belt you could just use the same style pump from the likes of Edelbrock which is more likely to handle the extra load of two V-belts on it. The water channels are indeed reversed on reverse rotation windsor pumps....you can't just switch impellors unfortunately. |
