definitive answer on an auto to manual conversion, wiring / electrical question.
Ok, so the question is: I am doing an auto -> manual conversion because I am a trend setter however, got the conversion stuff from a series 2 AU falcon, my car is Series 1 VCT. It will all match up except the electronic side of things. So here are my questions 1) Will I need to change the ECU or can I keep the S1 VCT ECU (SMARTLOCK) 2) Can I change over the ECU to the S2 non VCT (I doubt this but will still ask) 3) Will the car start / run? If not, what needs to be done to get her running? resistor trick? etc etc. Thanks for the help! |

YOu cannot put a S2 ECU into a S1 as the electronics are hugely different. Also if you put another S1 ECU into your car it will need to be taken to ford to have smartlock reprogramed and it won't match up. The resistor trick does work initially on AU's but apparently the ECU learns around it rather quickly. Your best bet is just doing the resistor trick temporarily but when you can ASAP flash your existing ECU into manual mode.
