Hi Guys
My Ef will not come out of drive. I had to replace the alternator, and the car (apart from that) was fine. Since reconnecting the battery the gearbox has been stuck in drive, very odd. It starts just fine (I would have thought impossible given the neutral safety switch), but no reverse, park, neutral, only drive . As you move the gear shift through the gears the revs increase as, and where they should (P,R & N) but then it drops straight into drive regardless on where the gear shift is. (possible selector switch failure? I have no idea as autos are not my strong point) Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance, Euan

ok let me get this straight you replaced the alternator...why?...was the battery disconnected the whole time?
so the car starts fine. ok well will it go into park, neutral or reverse when it isnt running? while the car is switched to acc with the gear selector in R do the reverse lamps illuminate?. Is it hard to select other gears with the motor off? |

No problems with the gear lever when motor off or running, reverse lights work fine. All operates as it should. It starts only in P and N like it should, but then drops itself straight into drive regardless on gearshift position. Alternator was replaced due to it failing and bearing noise, and yes the battery was disconnected the whole time.

Take the pan off and see if the "Z" link is laying in the bottom.
The "Z" link connects the internal linkage to the manual valve - If it comes out, The T-Bar will still work OK (Start in N & P, reverse lights etc) but the manual valve in the valvebody could be in the drive position - Instant drive on start up. |
