Hi,

I was told i can use my auto cross member when converting my EB 6cycl to manual, is this true? If not can it be modded? I have an EL T5 gearbox.

Thanks
Clint

Yes, that's correct. If you get a complete manual conversion, I thought they usually come with the cross member.

That's a good price. I paid $750 for mine on eBay. Unfortunately, when I brought the items home I found the clutch, input & output bearings were stuffed. The wrecker gave me an alloy XR6 wagon tailshaft which didn't fit the sedan.

Good luck with the changeover. :D

Cross memeber is the same, but you will have an issue with the weight that is bolted to the back of the exension housing.

You'll find that the EL weight is a different design and the handbrake cable wont go through it. You'll have to measure up a little and make some mods to get the cable to run freely.

Yeh i hope mine is ok too, it worries me. It looks to be in good nick and i can select all the gears but then again what does that really tell me :?

Thanks for the heads up with the cable, so do you mean the weight has to modifies or the hole/bracket it runs through?

Cheers :)

The hole in the centre of the bracket/weight is smaller on an EF/EL, so it interferes with the cable.

Last time I did this I moved the weight from the EB box to the EF/EL box... However, that was from T5 to T5, and I'm not sure if the manual and auto weight are the same, so you'd have to experiment.

But I also found the bolt hole spacing for the weight to extension housing was different, so holes had to be drilled.

Found this when the T5 was in and mounted, so was a prick of a job. So best to check and line everything up when its out.

Thanks arm79, i'l have a look tonight and play around with with the weights and stuff. These little things are what consumes time :(

Least i'm aware of them now.

I'll pull my weight off the auto see it fits on the t5, i might try this tonight also.

Cheers

My t5 box looks similar to this pic, where the cross member goes (circled in red), do i need the t5 rubber mount that bolts into the cross member? it didnt come with my gearbox :( Can i use my auto one? Will that fit?

I put my head under tonight and had a look and my auto then compared it to the t5, i'm not sure by looking (my car is so low i couldnt get my head under enough :| )

Had a look at the weight on the hand brake cable as you were saying arm79 i believe some modding has to be done.

Cheers

Clint
