Use cheap s**t oil to run it in for a few hundred kays then dump it and the filter for more cheap stuff. Let it idle until the lifters bleed up and the cam beds in. The whole time it is doing this listen for timing chain slap. Good luck but I think you should be OK.

Cheers, thats the plan as it needs a good flush anyway. Its only the stock cam in there atm as billets arent available and I dont want a regrind like my current motor.
I'm going to pull the rocker gear out of mums fairmont now anyway (noisy lifters) so I'll check the tension on that one and compare it to mine. |

Check it before you release the tensioner and then you will know what your looking at.
Wont need to bed the cam in just wait for the lifters to shut up. |

Ah yep.
Interesting development with the other motor I was playing around with earlier - when I removed the tensioner cover bolt, the tensioner was already released and fell out. Thats not meant to happen is it? It keeps doing it as well - I put in the tensioner, rotate it 360 so its locked in (or so it looks), put the bolt back in then take it out, and the tensioner just falls out again. |
