Good advise but the motor has been turned over many times know so rhe only way to set it is to start again and do it staticaly. You have had it running so it is realy close. with dizzy 180deg out it wont even cough when trying to start. |

i couldnt do anything to the car today because of the weather..
i know im on the right track, when i lined up TDC with piston 1 on cumbustion the rotar was facing completely opposite the start and finsh markings, so ive cleared that up.. now its just fine tuning it... And yes the only way it would splutter and struggle to stay alive was when it was fully retarted.. it would die after about 2-3 seconds after disengaging the starter motor.. hopefully the weather is good enough to have a fiddle tomorrow.. |

ok, i had a play around today, and moved it one tooth up.. and it fired up!! so thats a good start.. problem is it doesnt have much power when driving.. i cant advance the dizzy anymore.. am i able to rotate the rotor one more tooth at all? and not run it with it being advance as far as i can turn the cap??

That's the same problem I had. If you have a socket (5/16" I think) and a 1/4" driver handle, you can turn the oil pump shaft clockwise 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn. That will give you some more advance adjustment. The dizzy has to be out to do it though. Be careful not to lose the socket.

Yes, you can try moving it one more tooth first if it seats properly. I was thinking of rotating the whole dizzy assembly relative to the oil pump shaft position. My EA Bosch dizzy wouldn't do that for some reason.

Yep if you've run out of advance, back it up one more tooth. Do you have a timing light to check it once it is running?
I don't know anything about turning the oil pump drive, never had cause to have to do it before. |

if the dizzy wont go into the spot you want, leave the dizzy in where you are trying to put it. put a socket onto the harmonic balancer bolt and slowly turn the engine clockwise and every cm or so give the dizzy shaft a wriggle. and within half a crank rotation the oil pump shaft should line up and the dizzy will drop down..

well i advanced it one tooth and got the power to a point that im satisfied with..
I did notice tho if i was at idle, and put it into gear, after about 5 seconds it would start to hunt for idle.. not sure how to fix that? and also i noticed that when in idle, if you give it a rev.. it would hang around 1500rpm when i took my foot of for about 5 seconds and slowly comes back down..? |

If you've had the battery disconnected, it might run rough for a little while until the ECU 'relearns'. With the idle, you could go give the ISC a clean with some carby cleaner & a brush. Carbon gums up the spring mechanism over time.
Have you checked all your wires and vacuum hoses are on properly?
