Yes Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Bear is back on the road.
Or it will be this afternoon when I put a new battery in it.
Thanks to everyone that answered my silly questions in regards to changing the auto. Was heaps of help and probably wouldn't be finished without you. Yet.
Just to let you know.. The EL box does go into an AU but you need to swap the bellhousings as the holes at the bottom of the box are spaced out differently and there are only 2 not 4 as in the AUIt took 9 litres of tranny fluid to fill it after the box was empty and so was the convertor.
I put about 2 litres into the convertor then put it on the box and put them up to the motor.
If anyone else is doing this at home here is another point.
When you put the convertor onto the front shaft make sure it is all the way home. I thought I had but it was a s**t off and when I started the motor there was a lovely scraping noise coming from the bellhousing. When the convertor started turning it positioned itself properly and that made the bolts come slightly lose.
All you need to do to fix it though is jack itt up again and get to the convertor to flywheel bolts through the inspection hole at the bottom of the bell housing and tighten them. Only needed about 1 and 1/2 turns on the bolts and all is now fine.
I am thinking there is a slight ratio difference in the EL box to my old one.
It seems to have a bit more sprint off the line. but that could be that because of the old convertor being knackered and acting like a 5 grand stally towards the end of it's life it took more to get it going
Any way thanks again to all my helpers on the job. It will be great to be driving the beast again rather than the wifes Hyundai. Though that is a pocket rocket it isn't 6 cylinders is it guys. lolLater

Oh and my son caame up with a great idea for filling the transmission. As those of you that have done it before know, if you put the fluid in too fast you get a blow back out of the dipstick and fluid goes all over the engine bay. My boy was in the kitchen when I was looking for a small funnel in the wifes cupboards (shhh) and he turned round and sain , "here dad use this" It was a half empty squirt bottle of BBQ sauce.
Works furking great. No blowback as you only put half a litre in at a time. and no spillage from a funnel if you tip too quick on the big bottle.
And it would be great if you only need to top up the box if it is leaking a smidge.
Cheaper to buy the fluid in a 4 litre bottle than it is to get a 500 ml or buy it from a servo as you need it.
Later from the bear mobile
