hay all

my mate has a weird problem with his Ef Monty...

its making like a hissing noise when he turns it off.. sounds like steam escaping from somewhere.. now i have stuck my head in the engine bay sounds like its coming from the front of the engine bay...

it is starting to overheat as well... sits on the R-L most mornings..

but heres is the catch..
the following was done last month to it..
New reco head and Vrs set fitted
new radiator
new thermo housing
new thermostat
new hoses
new radiator cap...

its a weird noise as it sounds like its hissing in a breathing pattern.. like

PISSST pause PISST pause PISST etc etc does this for atleast 2 min after the car has stopped.

there are no visiable signs of a coolant leak..
any idea ????

i know that might be hard to understand but i couldnt think of any other way to discribe the problem.
all advice would be great :D

Sounds like it may have a vapour lock in the cooling system, can also be caused by cap not holding pressure and blowing back into the recovery bottle.
Remove rad cap and run engine till it reaches op temp with heater on full. Rev slightly and top up water and replace cap, I would use a new one. I just did my mates Mazda and they gave me a cap that fit but did not seal.
Maybe water pump.

You need to find out if it is losing any coolant, anywhere. Get someone to pressure test the cooling system, it could be going anywhere.
I had a similar noise with a mates 351c, turned out it was a tiny pin hole, leaking water into a combustion chamber. It would go pssst when a small bit of water hit the hot exhaust, and once it had vented, it didnt do it again for a minute or two. Had us scratching our heads for a while. We just chucked some chemi-weld in it and went back to racing.

If its just had all this work done dont put Chemi weld in it will do more damage than good to all the new parts installed, look for a vapour lock or actually check and see if the thermostat had been replaced if not check there.
