G'day all, a mate's got a BA Fairmont with 5.4 Barra 3V and has a problem cam sensor ( the one under front area of the rocker-cover ). He's been quoted $1100+ for a new replacement, but can pick up a used one for nicks. He just doesn't know if they're a "plug-n-play" change over, or whether the replacement needs to be programmed in after fitment. Anyone know about these at all ? any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks guys....Steve.

Yes they just plug in without setup. Do you know if it's the (OCV) oil control valve or the actual sensors that need replacing? Did the fault indicate CID1 or CID2?
If it's just the sensor/s take them out and check for metal particles stuck on the end(it's magnetic). If it's only a small amount that's ok but if there's big bits stuck to it there maybe trouble elsewhere and you should check the clearance between the tip and the encoder wheel which should be around 1.6mm. Get new sensors and/or OCV's from a U.S. F150 5.4 3V. They will be way cheaper direct from the U.S. |

He hasn't pulled fault codes, just that the sensor has oil leaking out of it (not just the O-ring leaking where it seals against the rocker-cover)....he's been told its a cam***sensor. there's a wire connection that plugs into it at the rocker cover..but the connection is full of oil that's apparently coming out of the sensor itself. Ford dealer said they've never heard of this happening before !

Ok well I'd check to see if someone hasn't swung off it before and cracked it.
Here's what they should cost.... http://cpwstore.carpartswholesale.com/c ... :0%29&sv=0 |
