Thought I would start a discussion on coil on plug ignition setups. As my EF will be running an EMS6860 ecu, I have 4 choices for the ignition.

1. Run a single igniter and standard coil pack as a wasted spark setup.

or Sequential spark, which is what I want to use.

2. Run a full EMS CDI setup plus six coils (not likely as the CDI is $1200 alone)

3. Run 6 LS1 coils with built in igniters, I think they are around the $80 each mark, $480

4. Run 2 x EMS, 3 coil igniter modules and 6 coils like the Weapon X, or MSD Coils, $600 all up.

Anyone seen or used a coil on plug setup on an EF? or have any info they would like to add for a discussion?

Go on to www.boostedfalcon.net BI6TIM had LS1 Coils with an 8860, and Rollin has LS1 Coils set up for wasted spark.

Cheers 67RCE, some good info in there.

What do people think about heat shielding some BA/BF coils, so I can use them on the EF, rather than using LS1 coils, trying to mount and make the LS1 coils look good, as well as needing to make up a set of small HT leads, plus not being able to buy the connector plugs without having to buy a whole Gen111 loom. Has made me decide to go with 2 x EMS 3 coil igniters, and coil plugs, but am not sure about them being so close to the headers.

Wouldn't be too hard to make up some sort of heat shield covers, I have seen some on the plug leads of some turbo setups that could be adapted?

Thoughts anyone?

thats 1st page results off google, would definitely be somewhere in aus that would have them, they are way too widely used to not be available.

plugs are cheaper then ignitors, but still leaves you with mounting issues i guess.
