Hey all,
I have a 99 AU fairlane, and i have recently noticed that it has decided to scrub out the inside passanger tyre. It is almost a perfect 45 degree schamfer. So i took it to a tyre place and the first thing he said was that it is porbably the steering rack. So my question is, should i take it to some one like pedders and get a $14 steering check and see what they say??? What else could it be??? And how much would it cost for a new rack?? Cheers in advance

I would get another opinion, even if you don't choose Pedders. Did you get a wheel alignment done?
Pedders fit 're-manufactured' steering racks, which means they do a bit more than just put seals & bushes in. Yes, they're a bit expensive but then I chose to use them instead of local mechanic. A lot of workshops in my area send cars to other places when they're too busy, or haven't got the expertise. I had my steering rack replaced for about $630, after it started gushing PS fluid.
