Hi all,
I'm getting close to hooking up my w2a system. Just need to fit the water pump. I know very little about electrical wiring or systems, but would be keen where possible to DIY. A couple of questions: 1. I know the water pump should run when the engine is...negative wire gets earthed, but where would you hook up the positive wire so that pump only runs when engine does? 2. How do you hook up a thermo fan (for the intercooler) wiring? I'd imagine this should only run when car is idling or at slow speeds, as frontal airflow when the car is moving means the fan won't be needed. How do you make a thermo run at idle or slow speed only? Thanks for the help! Joe

Joe,
Quickest and easiest way for the pump is to go off the coil wire. Run a +ve wire from the battery to a relay, then to the pump. Use the coil +ve to trigger the relay, earth as per usual.... To have the intercooler fan come on at low speed. You can trigger off the speed sensor. Get a voltage kit off jaycar. You can set these to what ever voltage you want. You will need an assistant to check voltage at whatever speed you want it to come on. Conversely, jack the car up on stands and then adjust the kit as per instructions to whatever speed you want. Really is pretty easy, the Jaycar kits are awesome.... Cheers Daz

Thanks Daz.
Have you used the jaycar kit on your setup? Below what vehicle speed do you have the thermo fan activate? I'd be thinking anything below 20km/h... above this the incoming air would probably cool better than the thermo. Joe

I may change it to one of the outputs off the stinger....not to fussed atm.... 20 kays would be about right. Cheers Daz

Any negatives to having the fans constantly running....eg. do they draw amps on startup, or are they noisy?
If not it would be easier to wire them the same as the pump.

My fan is a bit noisy, but not to over the top. Doesn't seem to affect the starting of the motor....

Wouldn't it be easier to run the heat exchanger fan parallel from the thermos terminal?

i think a thermatic switch is by and large the most sensible and foolproof way to do it.

That's it, something that can be adjusted to switch on between the 40-50 degree range and attach the probe to the W2A intercooler.

Steady, is a thermatic switch something i'd find at Jaycar for example?
I'm guessing it would be some king of in-line switch which would allow power to the thermos only when the (water?) reaches a predetermined temperature....? Remember I know nothing about electrics!

look for threads on installing thermos on EA-ED's.
They use the switches.
