i know it's a long shot but does anyone have an operational 3 speed laying around?

No reverse on those boxes was a fairly common problem.
The usual cause was a broken actuator rod in the box. It breaks becasuse of the rough bag that usually happens when you go from P to R. So rather than swap what may be a good box, you might be able to fix this yourself... Or at an auto shop pretty cheaply. I remember a few guys at work getting it done for the $100 mark. Be easier than having to source a new box and swap it over. |

yeah i've heard as much,
i was quoted roughly 200 to do it and service the rest, but can you remember who got it done for around a hundred? cash is pretty tight atm |

Pushing memories, but it was done at a place in outer Werribee... If I see the last person I know who had it done I'll ask.
They didn't do a service, just dropped the oil that was in the pan and put that stuff back in when they were done. That should keep the costs down. There's near $100 in a filter and fluid alone. |
