2002 AuIII XR6 auto
Bought it at 144000kms. All iv done to it is a KnN panel filter and intake manifold spacers.
Have had the 02 sensor replaced, rebuilt the transmission and major service.
Am recently averaging 200 kms city driving. Givin I might put me foot into it here and there but not so often as to absolutley destroy the economy this bad. Any ideas. I use BP Ultimate most of the time. Highway its pretty good though??? HELP!!!!

Have you checked your map sensor? Checked for codes?

Before i got lpg on a 98 AU engined EL, i used to get 250km's to a tank of petrol in melb.
First off, your car is designed to run most efficiently on 91, so stick to that for economy and power unless you have f**k with your timing.

Does the car backfire at all? Check all hoses, esp the one that connects from the map sensor on the firewall (little black doozey) and make sure that pipes straight into the centre of the intake runners on the outside of the engine.

Spark plug gaps, autospeed.com has a great article on spark plug wear if your unsure as whether to replace them or not.

Thats a good starting point which shouldnt take you 5mins :)

Being that bad id have a bet on it being a faulty oxygen sensor. Used to get pretty bad economy in my EF, got about 280km to a tank of fuel.... oxygen sensor was totally shot!

could be a blocked cat. these sap power and cause the car to burn exessive fuel.

Climb under and give the cat a few taps, if it rattles its rooted.

sorry to hijack thread. i performed cheap little DIY mod to my airbox recently (cut a hole in the front :D) and it seems my fuel economy has dropped? by roughly 50-60km its not much i know..but thought that something like this would increase it?
not sure if related or if it supposed to do this, but ive noticed now that at approx 2400-3500rpm my car sounds alot more different now?

umm..well i bought new tyres roughly a month ago!
ive only run just under 2 tanks of fuel through it since the mod.. and it seems its getting less out of it.
i installed a sub and amp yesterday, so battery was disconnected for a fair while..
should have reset and will see how i go with economy this week!
