Hi, new here, i was just wondering if anyone has fitted a dual exhaust to a EB V8 Wagon, in order to get the true ford V8 deep note out of the 302 motor?

Yes member Banarcus on here did have a duel exhaust on an ED V8 wagon same rear end to an EB. But he now has taken them off for legal reasons and he lives in NSW.
You will have the same issues trying to get one installed as most exhaust installers will not install one for legal reasons |

LP is correct.
I have been playing around with my wagon, and the issue is that the left hand pipe has to run within 10mm of the fuel lines where it passes above the diff near the top of the left hand chassis. There is just no other route for it to take. I may be feasible to reroute the fuel lines, but this would also entail bending the metal fuel lines as well as extending the rubber lines. Cheers BenJ

I have had 4 shops look at doing it on my el wagon and only 1 has said its not possible. Every shop has basically said that inorder to do it easy you must run the bend over the diff and have them finish lower after passing over which then mean that the remainder of the tail pipe can just be a length of striaght pipe. The bonus of doing that is that you can then fit any tip you wish without having to try make it fir with the stupid S bend on the factory style tail pipes.

I went to numerous workshops as well and they all pretty much said the same thing although one was willing to do it, without looking at it first up. The issue is the fuel lines, not the fuel filler hose. The lines wrap around the spare tyre compartment and then run along the floor pan. If you were to do a mirror image of the drivers side exhaust pipe in the way it runs over the diff and around the spare tyre compartment etc, the fuel lines get in the way. That is why I routed the exhaust under the diff and back over the spring so that I'd clear the lines. Not impossible to do, just painful. If you are going to do it, the sound is tough. I'm still coming to terms with the merged 3" system I have now as it has nothing on the sound of my old twin system. |

What exactly was your old system Barnacus?
Twin 2.25" cats into twin 2.5" pipes with one glass pack muffler each side if I remember correctly? WHat brand mufflers did you use? I remember seeing the video of your waggin on youtube and creaming myself.

The old twin exhaust was that, one 2.5" pipe from each cat into a small glass pack Supercat muffler and then out the back. Unmerged for sound. The only change from the photos here is that I used proper rubber mounts on each muffler. You can see here that I used bodgy steel strap until I got hold of the rubber ones.
That system was killed last Thursday. I put a heap of heat shielding to protect hoses and lines but when it came to doing the job and guarenteeing it 100%, I found it difficult for a fitter to do the job. I did it myself with my brother's pipe benders and used the sand in pipe method to reduce bend crush and welded it all up at home with my mig. It was rough in places but worked and sounded great. If I had more time(my house is undergoing a second reno) and money, I'd have got another duel fitted, especially now that I have a single 3" that sounds gay compared to the old setup. Pushing the wagon around town now means that I drown in droning resonance but on the boil it sounds ok. If you can find someone to do it, I reckon do it. The sound is unique, perhaps go with a X pipe or a good old fashioned H pipe to pick up a little more torque. I did it for sound and performance, not for looks. |

Just run twin pipes down the same side. Worked for me and been through 2 rego checks withour drama.

The NC Im using to donor my XF (Yes, I want the exhaust out of it) has Dual 2.5s but joins just before the Diff - Id love to be able to go Seperate Nigel |

Your setup would work on a station wagon if the bumper bar was cut out more on the side and the use of smaller diameter pipes, perhaps duel 2" tips or something.
I suggested this to a fitter and when he had a look at mine, he said that the damned chassis rail was in the way as was the rear leaf spring shackle too. There is simply not enough width between the chassis rail/leaf spring shackle and the side of the bumper without giving the bumper bar a real carve up. Nothing is impossible though, this is Fordmods and without having a go, you will never know! Aye Mick, can I pop around this arvo for that fireplace screen? |
