I recently pulled my climate control unit apart to change it over to a blue filter and it appears that the LCD screen needs to be de-soldered from the board in order to remove the orange filter/diffuser. There is a few contacts that need to be desoldered, from memory probably about 16 or something in total - they are in 2 rows.

I haven't yet de-soldered the LCD screen but i plan to attack it by using some de-soldering braid and hoping for the best lol. Failing that I'll probably just take it to an electronics place and pay them to de-solder and re-solder the screen back in place.

Get a "solder sucker". Braid or "solder wick" as its called, if you dont know how to use it properly it makes a huge mess and is just generally hard stuff to use. Solder sucker is just like a really thick pen, push the lever down so its latched, melt the join, click the button the thing snaps back creating a vaccuum sucking solder up into it. Should be $20<.
