Hi guys can some one give me any idea as to why my motor misses and nearly stalls when it changes from 1st to 2nd gear please? It only happens when the motor is cold. It is a 1996 XH ute with 4.0l and automatic. When its driven about a kilometre and she warms up a bit there is no problem as well as driving again about an hour later after stopping. Its only when the motor is cold from sitting for more than 6 hours. I have also noticed that the temp. gauge does not go above about 1/8th of the gauge whereas all of my other cars have always been either half way or just a fraction below. The gauge does work as I destroyed a belt the other week and I noticed the temp. going up due to no water pump turning. The idle is about 650 to 700 rpm in gear and is rough. I did replace the rear mount but it made no difference. (It was broken). any advice will be appreciated. Cheers, AU055

used to do it (and to some extent still does) timing was WAAAAAAAAAAY! out and now its good again. you might have to retime by hand (& feel on tdc of cyl 1) to get it as you would have never found mine out (lights & marks all said it was good)
start there

line everything up to TDC and see if piston 1 is at the top. if its not theres a problem. also go through a retime on the dissy
