It was a 2nd hand 1, so it could have been faulty...and i am glad you asked about this earthing..... if i dont have a good 1, how can i make 1 please...mechanics keep asking me about this, its just funny that the problem really gets bad when the engine warms up. It wouldnt be the new coil, would it, its a cheap 40 buck 1 from repco...all black and says , performance coil...yahoooo

Hi Nightwing,
One useful way of diagnosing your problem is to use some FREEZE spray which you can get from Jaycar or d**k (Richard) Smith. Since the problem happens predictably, when it faults give each component a spray one at a time. IE spray the distributor then drive the car & see if that fixes it temporarily, if so then that is the culprit, if not go to the coil etc.

Thanks
Mark

Thanks for that tip. Since i last posted, i checked my leads resistance again and 5 of them were bad, changed them and the spark plugs, it started better but it still didnt run right. I have since loosen the dizzy and swung it all the way around towards the coil and it runs even better, but, obviously it needs to be re timed properly and correctly, as it still backfires a little when i come off the throttle and it has a bit of hesitation wheni accelerate quickly and under load..
