My 5 spd gearbox has bein making a severe rattling noise for bowt 4 months.it startd off quiet then gradually got worse.it sounds like a grinding noise.when you start the car its loud then once its warm it sort of goz away.driving the car is sweet as gets all gears evn when your foots to the floor.help needed lol!!!cheers

yea i took it into my mechanic he rekns its shot but how cn i keep driving it if the gearbox is no good thats what gets me.i guess a specialist would tell me.my mechanic tld me 6500 for a second hand gearbox and 9k brand new does that sound about right?

That sounds way over priced.

Ring around a few wreckers and get some quotes and ring tranny places and get quotes.

Sounds like he is ripping you.
I would expect a rebuild for less than 2k maybe less.

Just as a guide i just rang a wrecker in sydney and was quoted $1150 for a 2nd hand one

i got a few quotes for my tranny last week when it was getting repaired.

baileys performance transmissions in perth.

$2500 supply (reconditioned) and refit standard 4spd.

or $3500 for a performance box. didnt say how much power it could take. but basically he said he'd rework my entire 4spd for $3500. (SUPERCHARGED EL). so if a H/D rebuilt performance tranny, fully rebuilt costs only $3500 for an electronically controlled auto. i cant see a standard manual being much more exspensive. (shoot me if im wrong)

i know its for the 4spd. but still that was through a reputuable dealer and there usually over priced.

yea look cheers guys will ring roun an see what comes up.seemed abit overpriced for my liking.just dont know who to trust these days bt yea cheers again.
