Hi all, this is an interesting one !! I have a Fairmont Ghia 1991 model with a factory fitted radio/cassette unit and the problem I am about to describe a problem with the unit that has been gradually getting worse over the past few months.

When depressing the on/off swith, which is also the volume control the ariel raises and their is no display and of course no music. Sometimes I can remedy the problem by switching the radio on and off, this does not always work.

If the radio does come on it may go off later. There does not seem to be any pattern nor does there seam to be anything wrong with the cassette and illumination of the unit and the automatic ariel still raises and lowers.

If anyone has any idea I would sure appreciate a fix :)

chuck it in the bin, try to find a replacement ford HU from a wreckers or get an after market one. It would seem you have some components in the unit which are failing and probably not worth your trouble trying to fix!

spray the crap out of your power/ volume button with contact cleaner and move it round a bit might just be a dirty contact in the switch..

or as Happy said get a new one.

Is your stock stereo one that has CD changer controls on it? Or is it just a normal radio/cassette head unit?
