HI fella's,
I realise this is not a ford, but i thought one of you smart barstads would be able to help me out. Well yesterday I did 930kms ( from Albany to Perth and back ). on the way back i blew a waterpump, babied it home. Amazingly it didn't overheat. Ok, now i spent all of today pulling out water pump, which in doing so, the timing belt has to be removed, so i replaced all that while i was at it. went to start the car quickly with no cover, or coolant, ticked over fine, and ran absolutely fine. Went to turn it off again to fill up coolant and put cover back on. Then i went to start it again and...... ttsshh, smoke pissing out from the battery. melted 2 wires. Had a looksie around the wiring, can't see anything out of the ordinary. It's only when your attempting to crank the engine. A possible faulty relay? help me fella's I'm stumped.. And have already spent $500 bucks this morning... cheers for any help.

I agree that it could be a bad earth, but maybe something is causing the starter motor to draw too much current. Did you get coolant/water into anything?
