Alright, I have a torque wrench that was given to me a few years ago but I was never shown how to use it correctly. Its an old one with a bar that runs down the middle with a guage on the end. How do I know when I have the correct set? Is it just before the bolt turns, or the maximum pressure before the bolt turns? This may be a stupid question but my father died before he could show me how to use it correctly, and him being my mentor ( 30 years mechanic in the army... he knew a bit) I missed out on that lesson.

I can't visualise what this looks like.
But just play around with it on something random thats not your car.
It'll do one of 2 things. Either Click or "Break" as it reaches the set torque.
Must be a sliding guage or dial on it? Can you see any numbers? May have rubbed off being so old.

there is no setting, just as you get to a certain torque the bar sits above the numbers. Ill try to get some pics up

Just tighten the balancer as tight as you can get it, dont bother with the torque wrench.

The sheer act of the engine running will further tighten the bolt and keep it that way.

Is that really the case? I think its supposed to be 90? If thats the case then I will just tighten it so the balancer dont move and leave it

Still needs to be tight as you can get it.
You can use two bolt holes in the balancer with hitensile bolts, put a breaker bar between the two to stop the motor from spinning when tightening the crank bolt.
