TIAMO wrote: Had the Redback 2.5 with muffler and hotdog on my AU XR6 and by itself sounded pretty ordinary. Got Pacie 4480's and stainless hf cat immediately and sounded heaps crisper and overall better. Got it up to 138 rwkw with this and k&n filter. Did you dyno it before those mods? Would be interesting to see the difference Vs stock |

Replace it with anything, SS, Aluminium, Pvc doesnt matter. The piece coming from the airbox measures 55mm internally. You will need to modify the hole in the airbox also.

Yes a dead thread i know but I just thought I would post this up for people to hear the difference between the two systems I have. There are a few variables but me and the exhaust joint both agree the diameter of the pipe made the biggest difference. Sorry sound isnt the best, I wish I had a proper video camera, this is just my phone. Old set-up: Pacemaker Ph4499's, empty stock cat, 2.5" sport system with 2 straight through mufflers. Outback brand (nothing special) New Set-up: Pacemaker Ph4480's (comp headers), 100 CPSI hi flow 3" cat, 3" sport system with 2 lukey centre expansion mufflers. |

rhys.c wrote: what length would you tune the intake to? im not sure what you mean. do you simply mean the induction piping? If so, my understanding is: Short + wide = high HP but less torque Long + narrow = low HP and more torque makes sense as you would get more air speed at low revs but that would become a restriction as you increase the motors demand for air at higher RPM. There is a lot more to it. You also need to calculate the right length intake runner (i.e from port to end of manifold) so that you can make the most of pulse waves. If you have a look in dsfyer's intake thread in this section I posted the maths/a little theory behind it on the first or second page. Ideally you would have your exhaust manifold tuned for the same purpose, and matching headwork/cam.
