Can anyone confirm for me that there is only one temperature sensor on the EF I6? Just the one Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor located on the thermostat housing. Just checking that there isn't a second temperature switch for the thermo fans (as mine are not working as so checking all bases now) - pretty sure it's only the one temperature sensor as that provides a signal to the ECU for multiple purposes - fuel control, temperature gauge, etc.

this is correct...
its fed into the EEC-V which then triggers the thermo fans and also the temp gauge in the cluster... If you pull the relays you have power to the yellow wires in the base, and also the red wires (when car is on)? EL wiring is attached, it will similar... you will have 4 relays though and 3 speeds... not sure how exactly the EF's are wired... Cheers, Tim

Thanks for the wiring diagram, but I think EF and EL are different. EF has 3 fan speeds and EL only two AFAIK. I intend to do some serious probing tomorrow morning on it and will know more then.

However the big yellow wires in the relay block will come straight off the 60 amp main fuse in the engine fuse block, the small red wires come off a switched source (car must be "on", accy wont work) not sure which fuse they are off now If you get power on all of these I'd nearly bet the computer is having an issue as it grounds out the small blue wires to bring on different combinations of relays for the various fan speeds... If you get to that stage find which wires it is in the EEC plug and remove the EEC, turn the key to on (so the red wires are powered) and then ground out the three pins in the plug for the thermos and this should engage the relays and bring the fans on, if the fans come on when you do this its the EEC, if not its the relays or something out in the engine bay anyway... Let me know what you find anyway and I'll help you nut through it... Cheers, Tim
