Hey Guys
I have a 97 EL XR6 Auto. I want to go forced induction. i.e. Turbo Now I want to know if the T5 gearbox will be strong enough to handle 250 to 300 @ the wheels or should I stick with my Auto?, keeping in mind that I really, really want to convert to manual. Cheers Pete |

A T5 will be destroyed in no time with 300rwkw

What if the T5 was strengthened?

One decent 3rd gear pull and it will be dead. Go a T56 if you want a manual.

Tweak the BTR or fit up a TH400 with manualised shift with 3.08 *final drive and you won't look back...
There are Mustangor U.S 4 speed auto's on E bay which can take this sort of torque for around 3K.. Turbo's and auto's match VERY well esp at the drag strip... Smooth operation on road car also.. With this much torque the clutch takes some abuse, needs servicing often.. * due to no overdrive, same with any 3 speed auto.. The wider gear ratio's won't effect performance one once... Turbo engines go better with wide ratio's... Keeps turbo on spool as they make tons of mid rpm torque...
