Hi, I have a BA LTD 5.4L
I haven't always had this problem but as of the last few months the car is being reluctant changing gear if I'm giving it s**t (foot flat)
its most commonly changing from 2nd to 3rd (cant recall it being any other gears) its almost as if its hitting the rev limiter, feels sort of like an electronic cut out of power intermittently but I don't think its that, and the car just sorta lurches a bit then sometimes changes or sometimes i have to take my foot off the accelerator momentarily then it does.
is it the rev limiter?
the car did a similar thing going about 180 km/h but i just chalked that up to probably being the speed limiter which i heard was a little lower on the LTD than the XR8 which would makes sense
any ideas?

sounds like its in "limp home mode" somthing that the cars computer does if theres somthing wrong and its trying to not let u destroiy the car.

also i thought the ba's hav a speed limiter of 200?

not sure how to correct the limp home mode thing ther must be some sort of engine diagnostic tool u can plug into the computer and will give u a idea.

I thought limp home mode was when it won't change out of 3rd gear? Could be low trans fluid maybe or a dodgy solenoid

hmmm i might have to find out more about this "limp home mode" then.
though its weird that it never did it before, I've had the car for just over 1 year and its only seemed to do it for roughly 2 or 3 months.

possible that it does have to do with an engine issue though because its been running a bit rough on idle. similar feel to a missfire but no where near as lumpy, (i remember the symptoms from my old EA)

and i would be interested to know what the speed limiter is set at, and if its the same for all BA's or if XR and up (GT etc) is higher, if anyone knows for sure.

It probably is hitting the rev limiter. My pursuit does this sometimes. Another strange thing is that silly shift buzzer that it has, sometimes it hits the limiter before the buzzer sounds!? Christ knows why the buzzer even operates when you're in auto mode anyway? They wised up and got rid of the silly thing in BF I see.

Take the car to a good mechanic and get him to put it on the dianostic mechine the codes will come up and it will thell you whats wrong,and its proberly a good idea to get it serviced shouldent set you back to much hope all goes well.

id be fitting a trans cooler while your at it
