Anyone had an AU engine installed into EF/EL by Allfords in Victoria?
A thread here said that Allfords made welded AU sumps to allow instal into EF. I rang them but they dont. Anyhow they reckon they have a Vicroads approved way to install the AU engine, but only 'some' AU engines fit. Dunno what thats about they were pretty tight lipped...big secret!!! Anyone had one fitted by Allfords or know what procedure they use? Other than cutting up the kframe or welding the sump, what other options are there. Anyone know a workshop in Melbourne thats got experience modding the AU sump?

there is only 3 ways it can be done..
1. cut and modify the sump.. 2. cut and modify the k frame. 3. custom made sump or modify the bottom end enough to use e series sump... |

Thanks guys.
I got a quote today to do same as yours Krytox. 3hrs work = $240 seems pretty steep. Dunno, the AU is a smoother engine but is it that much better than an EF? you can get a good second hand EF engine for $240. As you said Troy, the e series engines are just about disposable items these days.

1 other option is to fit the EF sump and timing cover to the AU motor.
You will get the advantage of the AU head but not the alloy sump.

Just cut and re weld the K frame, its simple, easy and cheap to do.

Agreed but the car is not yet registered. A cut Kframe is not an option for rwc.

That doesnt work as you cant use the main girdle bolts on the AU bottom end. Theres no real advantage in just using an AU head on a E series bottom end either, the gains are in the AU bottom end. |

For an everyday car theres no problem doing it this way.... done it twice so far on my Lads cars.... No probs on them....
