fair enough, I knew it would need something due to the size of the cam. Thats a very nice sounding cam though.

ah i have a 977b with a 108 lobe sep, idles almost stock with a j3 tune, slight lump.. can tell it has a cam but i wouldn't call it lumpy, thou a lumpy cam for me is 240@50 minimum... goes good pulls like a train from 3 onwards, t5 and 3:45 diff have been dead even with a stock evo 8, and it loves second gear burnouts! 155rwkw's and 420nm's on a mainline dyno

that sounds tough. i like it. my au1645 cam has similar specs except for the LSA is 114 deg due to the auto.

That cam sounds real tough! Looks like it was a good setup for power too.

I reckon an AU1645 grind with a lobe sep of 110 would get that note, but you would need a 3000rpm stall converter and at least 3.7 diff ratio.

ive got the au 1645 in my car as of yesterday. Its hunting like a b**ch but the idle note is good.

I was surprised to be honest, it has 114 LSA but stalled 3 times when I first jumped in and put it in reverse (even though its a manual). I would have thought the idle would have been better. Im considering getting the stock cam reground too.

Might go the next size up and decide which one I like better.

it will hunt and stall because your ecu dont like the drop in manifold vacuum caused by the different cam..
you will need a chip or flash tune to smooth the idle out..

+1 on what Troyman said. AU MUST have a chip or flash tune done to suit the cam regardless of size of the cam. When it gets tuned, most of the lumpiness will be removed in lieu of drive ability.

Unfortunately the AU's werent as blessed with the 'bolt on and away you go' parts as the e-series. The ecu is a bit more complex. Once you get the ecu modified/flash tuned, it should be sweet.

yeh im just discovering this now.

Hopefully it will be dyno tuned within a month. Also its now drinking fuel like nobodies business. When idling you can see the black smoke coming out the exhaust. That gives me extra incentive to get it running properly.
