Gday everyone

As they title says im wondering if the diff centre from my EB 1 Fairmont I6 will fit into my EF 1 Fairmont 5ltr?

Also what's the ratio on both of them?

The reason im asking is because I've got a major whine in my EF and I have the EB just sitting there looking ugly and good for nothing . . . .

Any help would be great

Cheers

Probably not.

Eb1 center may be only 25 spline and the EF v8 should be 28 spline. You might be able to mix the center & axles into the EF housing, but do you have ABS? I'm not sure where the tone wheel is on the ABS models, is it on the axle or the disc?

Cheers

Cheer for the reply torana guy

I would have no idea about the tone wheel - but yes it has abs.

If its not a straight swap im probably not the right person to do it so I might leave it. I mean im happy to have a go but I only have one working car which I need - how hard is it to completly stuff the whole thing up?

Im assuming a new diff from the wreckers would be a reasonable price? Say no more than $4-500?

Was just going to attempt to save money lol

A complete diff disc to disc from the wreckers, could be in the ball park of $180 - $700 depending on if your after a LSD or just a single spinner. But it will come with some warranty. If you get one from the wreckers that suits EF it will bolt & plug straight in.

There would be a bit of messing about to swap bits around to make the EB parts fit in the ef housing.

Cheers

NP mate. A diff isn't too hard to remove from a car if you have a mate with you, and a couple of old rims & tyres to bolt to it to allow it to be rolled some of the distance you need to move it.

I was quoted up to $550 for a lsd diff for my EB2 Ghia, and managed to get one from a u-pull it type wreckers for $150. A huge saving, worth the hassle!

Cheers

Most likely a 3.23 mate.
