automatic transmission

had trouble shifting from P to R... the transmission lever wouldn't move.

Then let go, tried again and it worked... but a big clunk sound.

First time it happened?

If so, if it happens again, report back.

Could be simply the weight of the car was pressed up against the park.

Make sure when you park, place into park and then hand brake firmly then release brake pedal.

cheers will report back tommorrow if it happens again

so there is DEFINITELY no way it could be related to transmission?

that is... the CLUNK sound

Correct procedure......pull up, place in neutral, apply park brake, take foot off brake, switch off engine to accessories, place into Park, turn off key rest of the way........NO loading of the park pall at all.
