Hi Everyone,
This is my first post, so apologies if I stuff up I'm looking to purchase a BA Fairmont and convert it gas, but as I'm new to the Gas (Because I used to own a H**den, which don't like the gas) I have a few questions if anyone knows the answer to: I read in this forum that "Direct Liquid Injection" gives the best performance AND fuel economy, is this true? if not, what is?? and if it is, what would the fuel consumption be like on a V8 model? (Like 11L/100km?) Is it majorly different from the V6 Model? The reason that I ask is that i'm about to start Uni, and I'd love to get a V8 but i've gotta be mindful of the running cost. Thanks for your assistance guys, you rock!! |

Thanks for your assistance guys, you rock!! When I hear Falcon/fairmont + V6 in the same sentence: Yes it is correct. Expect the same fuel efficiency of that on petrol. Looking at anywhere between 15-20L/100 in pure city driving, less than 10L/100 on pure highway and somewhere in between for a mixture.

Hi mate Ford are a Straight 6 (I6) Not a V6. The missus V8 fairlane is pritty good on gas not really that much different to a I6.

I've got a BA V8 mont and i average around 13lt per 100k. That gives me about 460k a tank(petrol). Roughly thats $0.16 a km. I'm a bit of a led foot but its hard not to be in a V8. If you are really worried about the $$ then get the I6.

I don't really think the difference in usage is really an issue with them as the missus fairlane was returning pritty much the same mileage as my old girls BA ute and the fairlane weighs more than the ute so take that into account and they would be pritty much on par.

Average fuel consumption is 14.5L/100k's and i have a heavy foot. I get about 5 days from a 50L Gas tank. Each day is roughly 60k's. But it only costs $35 to fill it up , and that's when gas is at 70 odd cents. In the country i can get about 380 from a tank sittin on 110.

"it's not hard to be a lead foot in a V8" < if it went like a v8 should you wouldn't have to! lol guess thats what you get for buying an antiquated 3v v8. my sohc 6 used to hose 5 litres around town and still return 14L/100k's, and that was flat biscuit from turn key to engine off. as good as the new v8's are, their already obsolete. hence why they're still making more power from 5L's in v8 series, and still can't crunch numbers with a worked turbo 6.
