Last week i took my ute to work and back.
On the way home i did a burnout, and around 2km after that, i heard a pretty bad clunk. Then when i pulled up at home, i turned into the driveway and it went 'snap' It sounded pretty bad. Then i pulled it out of the shed today and took it around the block.......well it just sounded like a bowl of coco-pops everytime i'd turn a corner. I'm wondering if it's worth rebuilding the diff, and changing the centre to a better ratio (also convert to disc brakes). or should i get a new/reco one?

what you got it in and what is it
sounds like its a good time to change ratios , a rebuild is only bearings and a seal normally - except 4 yours if its like dog food ( so chunky you can carve it) i did 6 borg warners in my manual and then went 9 inch and now i only destroy lsd clutches - detroit next |

has a 351 and a C4 behind it - took 1600km to wreck it
it's an 8 3/4 2.92:1 ratio. I'm thinking a 9in with discs (mine's drum) and a centre of around 3.5. i don't do much highway driving in it so even 3.7 should be ok.

the 9 inch takes a bit more grunt to turn , but as i said your pretty safe with it - except with the lsd clutches
if you can afford the rubber and like gettin it side ways mini spools are good apart from some shudder occasionally i got 3.6 and wont go higher than that - 3.89 or 4.11 next disc brakes are good but handbrakes need checked / adjusted often - well mine does decisions decisions |

are mini-spools legal, last i heard they weren't.
i might still get one though.
