G'day fellas,
Got a query for you all. Situation: When I am in gear (drive or reverse) If i turn the wheel as far left or right the car starts to shudder and almost stall, I've never been turning long enough to make it stall, but I imagine it would. Upon further investigation I have found that the what I assume is the power steering pump is making some pretty drastic noises (mp3 file attached can show you what I mean). Thoughts: My guess is putting a lot of strain on the pump is causing the engine to go under extra load and stall it out, similiar to say AC can sometimes stall out some cars (when faulty of course) Remedy: I'll leave this one up to you guys? http://rapidshare.com/files/405446162/recording6.mp3 Cheers Josh |

If the fluid level is too low, look for leaks.....power steer switch ( on the rack ), or if a rack boot looks full ( like its full of oil )......or oil leaking from a hose, or the pump itself.

I had this issue, until I had to get the rack replaced. turns out in my case it was pushing pluid past the ends and was pouring out the boot. I know what you are talking about it feels like a shudder as well as the noise. the car will not actually stall but it labours and the revs drop significantly.
Hope its not your rack. its a PITA of a job to do or expensive if you get someone else to do it. Take it to a steering place, they should at least be able to diagnose it and let you know what your options are.
