ED into EF anythink I need to know?
I have a wreaked ED and a 350,000 Noisy lifters EF, the ED is clean and a good runner. Just doing the maths! I am seeing cost of replacing the lifters $120-$140 and 1-2 days v 2 days (wet weather) and some knuckle de-barking. Any ideas welcomed. Cheers hairy |

If you are reasonably handy (and being on here hopefully means that you are), lifters shouldn't take more than a few hours taking your time.
However if the ED motor is much healthier, it makes sense to swap. If it is a late ED, it may have an EF spec motor anyway. If you do swap it, all the acessories/manifold/wiring/sensors etc will have to be swapped over from the EF motor obviously. Easy to do out of the car though. |

Hey,
I put an ed xr6 engine into my EF gli. You will need to change the timing cover (requires dropping the sump), air con bracket, alternator bracket, BBM, heater pipe, aircon, coil pack and crank angle sensor onto the ED engine. As well as the knock sensor. It sounds like alot, but my grandfather and i did a engine gearbox changes in a weekend. Never done it before. Good luck. (get an ellerys book!!!!)

My ef was stamped with a 94da number, the ED block also was stamped with 94da. So it seems they both had the same block.
In other words check the block stamp.

the late ed engine has 94da stamped on the front of the head,
and on the drivers side of the block at the rear near the sump where the gearbox support bracket is, there will be a 94daxxxxxxxx cast into the block... |
