Hey guys got a problem.
Car: 06 BF XR6 Unit: JVC KD-AV7008 Head unit has been in and working fine without issuses for the last 2 months Head Unit started turning on and off at random times while driving. Smooth roads, not over bumps. Then stopped all together. Checked fuses, all wires (all good) and completely diconeccted the unit. This worked, as when I put it back in it started up. Head unit has now turned off again and wont turn back on after doing as said above again. I have the power and earth off the cig lighter (cig works with the head unit not working) My constant is run to the distro block for my amps with an inline fuse on it. (not blown) Anything wrong with this? Was thinking maybe voltage drops and what not from the amp causing problems with the constant? I've had the unit for a couple of years after buying it from a mate that only had it for a few months. Any other idea as to what maybe wrong? Or could it be its just given out on me and need to buy somthing new? Thanks guys for any help.

i had the same problem with the jvc head unit i put in dad's car, check the power and earth pins in the actual plug for the head unit, just jiggle them with it plugged in. if this is the case just pull the loose one out and squash it a little bit so it get's a better contact on the pin in the headunit.
the cheap ebay one's have the same problem, people think its the head unit but it's just the plug. it only takes a minute and it works a treat. cheers, Tomo

G'day, I suspect it'll be the head unit if all your wiring is good, have you checked the fuse in the back of the head unit itself?
otherwise probably in the head unit it might be just a dry solder etc., or something more important, anyway going on your description it sound to be a head unit problem. edit: interesting I'll have to try that on my ebay cheapy.

Well just drove to my GF's house and its working again... Soooo maybe a loose pin or a dry solder so i'll get on to checking that out during the week some time.
Hoping thats all it is as this is a damn expensive unit.

I don't think I'd be running the head unit power wire to the cigarette lighter; it draws a fair bit of current when in use. Ideally you should run a separate wire to the battery with your in line fuse but the original head unit power wire should have been fine; that's what most people do. Also where does your ignition/accessories wire go to?
