Hey guys I have bought myself a NL Fairlane 5.0 and plan to use it as a daily and a sometimes tow car(towing either bikes or a car trailer/car). What modifications would be best to make sure its rock solid. Currently it is running Pedders sports rider shocks and super lows in the rear(going to put the pedders back in to try and get a little more height there).
Any need for an upgraded trans cooler? Anyone ever used airbags(like used by 4WDers) to assist in load carring? Do the tow bars from Falcons fit the fairlanes? Or are they a different part? I am after a HD one. |

When I had my Fairlane for towing, I had raised rear shocks in the rear end (which replaced the SLS anyway). I have since taken them out for my lows but I keep them in the shed just in case; it's a quick swap anyway. Obviously the electronic brake unit is still kept in the car. I am not 100% sure, but I thought the fairlane tow packs were different from falcons as the bums are longer. I also have the HD one.

if your doing heavy towing...the pedder's spring's that come with the car will do fine (i should know)
it'll bring the ride height at the back up a bit though ! i did'nt tow any car's, but did a few load's when shifting house last no prob's. i'm not sure what that tow pack is rated at ? maybe call into a ford dealer and quote the old reg plate (in the hand book) and they should be able to tell you what was put in |

Thanks guys, good idea Steve! The hight it is at is nice however when you have a load in it speed humps can be a little fun.

speaking of trans cooler, you SHOULD get one even if you don't have a tow-bar, I've seen to many radiators crack and poor water into the gearbox, and ATF into the water...
if I buy a car, tow-bar or not, and its an auto, i always fit a trans cooler too it. that little cooler that ford gives you, you know the little ribbed one, is NOT big enough!!! Laticia (who works in a auto shop!)

Yeah such as my dads gas au sitting stranded for the last 6 months due to water destroying the gearbox, I told him to get a poper flush when the lines busted.
nows he driving a commodore on petrol he would've saved the cost of the flush since then several times, does a lot of k's. Yeah the towpack from falcons fit them, eg on mine it says for ef/ nf/ df sedans. ones off wagons wont go though, nor will the boxcar towpacks fit
