hi guys. boxing day last year i fitted an rae distributor and coil from repco. one day i was driving it up the street, ( slowly, just cruising down the street. ) it made a horrible noise and stopped. then when i went to restart it, it didn't want to turn over.

so i f**k around for ages. pulled the plugs and wound the motor over by hand and it turned over no probs. checked for spark/fuel, all ok. checked cam timing. ok. checked dizzy hadn't moved. it hadn't. i eventually got someone to give me a hand and with a timing light,i found the timing was majorly retarded !

so after asking myself wtf a few times, i advanced the dizzy a tooth and it started. it was running mega crook though. checked and the timing was still retarded close to 20 degrees at idle. i started to wonder when i had to put the dizzy in way past the finish mark to get the timing that good.

so i pulled the dizzy and checked the chopper wheel. it was loose ! it had only been glued together ! when i rang repco they rang rae and apparently it happens a lot ! why not change something ! f**k ! so i used the shaft out of the old dizzy until i get a new one.

sorry for the essay, but has anyone else encountered this ?

Yeah a mate of mine had the same issue with a repco one, in a 351 clevo in a f100. Repco talked em up said they were great and had just been released (few years ago now) put it in, was good for a bit but fell apart in no time. parked the car pulled the dizzy, put his flogged out one back in drove to repco and gave em hell.

Good to see they are still up to their same old tricks. They stung me on an alternator recently for the wifes astra too. No more ripco for me. Rip Every Poor C*** Off is about right for them.

Not even a brand name product, I wont have them making anymore money out ouf me. bastards.

Yeah, i've seen that LOTS of times, but normally the new gear on the dizzy cracks or brakes and you get nice little bits of metal going around your motor.

If you still have the old dizzy, USE the gear of that one instead of the new one, because the worm gear from aux shaft wears the gear, so if you put a new one in there, you though everything out of sink, its easy to change the gear, its just held in with a roll pin,

You very lucky it didn't damage or jam your aux gear, cos once the dizzy gear is gone, you have no oil pump!

Laticia.

Yeah, probably best to get a 2nd hand Bosch unit, change the bush(around $9 from Ford) - measure the shaft end float so you can tap the new bush in to match. Soak the new bush in oil overnight.
Plenty of heatsink paste for the TFI. That paste isn't cheap either - try a computer market or wholesale.
As mentioned, good idea to keep meshing cogs that have worn together.
