Hey Guys,
Well, after the cat next door decided to jump on my boot spoiler and scratch the F*&K out of it today, I thought it may as well be time to de-spoiler the XR.. Just wondering if you guys could run me through the process of re-spraying a bootlid? Looking at getting a second hand one from the wreckers and sanding it back.. Has anyone had any experience filling in the holes from the spoiler, or do you think it would be cheaper/easier to buy a boot lid off a GLI/Futura?? Cheers, Will (Grey EF XR6) |

Cheers, Will (Grey EF XR6) Better off buying a boot lid off a car without a spoiler and getting that sanded back, prepped and painted ready to go on. That way you can do a straight swap once it's all done, rather than having the car off the road for a while. Basically sand back to bare metal, fix any dings and fill any holes. Smooth it out, give it a good clean, primer, couple of layers of paint and clear coat... you're better off giving it to a professional rather than doing it yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

Find a bootlid in the same colour.... saves all the BS
might take you a little while to hunt one down (depending on the colour) but you can just bolt it on...

If you can find one in the same colour in good nic, theres a very easy fix.
Failing that, finding a good second hand one in any colour is the way to go. Chances are it wont have any dings in it, I've only seen a few bootlids that have had anything wrong with them out of dozens and dozens. You'll need to sand back the clear, and the colour until primer starts showing through, then you can start spraying it. Or take it a pro, will only cost like 2-300 to get them to spray it. |
