Hey guys, I've done a search but with no definitive answers I thought I would give it a shot.

My AU III Falcon HP has a constant rough whirring differential noise across a range of speeds and is at its worst at around 105kmph.

I have had the rear wheel bearings replaced and had the oil changed with an additive designed to reduce noise. None of these have made any difference at all. What is my best option as far as fixing this goes?

Should I purchase a full axle from the wrecker for $350 and swap it in myself (i'm fairly competent at turning spanners unless there is special things/tools needed to complete the task) However the diff would be an unknown quantity.

Or

Should I take it to a specialized diff/transmission shop, pay to get them to check it over and replace bearings as necessary?

Sounds like wreckers are trying to rip you off big time, you should not need axles i doubt the outer bearings are what is causing noise, $350 for a pair of falcon axles second hand from god knows what car at the wreckers is just robbery.

Sorry for confusion, when I say axle I am talking about the whole unit including diff.

Still not worth it, just think if your diff is noisy why wont the second hand one your going to buy from a wrecker be noisy its a common problem with ford diffs

Just take it to a creditable diff shop where you will get warranty for work done
