I'm not 100% sure, but from memory i think it might be J4 - Pearl Black.

No, I don't think J4 Black Pearl is right. My Wagon is Black Pearl.

EF/EL cars didn't come in black from the factory. The one Black NL Concorde I know of locally was painted black by the Funeral Company than previously owned it.

Black Pearl has a fair amount of silver metal flake in it, and is not a true deep gloss black.

The AU black is much darker.

Cheers

Maybe Silhouette then? Pretty sure that was the name of the black in the AU range. I think you are right about them only being that black for funeral car purposes though, I remember reading that somewhere before.

Mine is a factory black NL and it was painted that way from the factory.

Vehicle is an x funeral directors car.

On the Vin Plate in engine bay colour code it states paint code is W

Perhaps then, and I am only hypothesising here, that if an order came in from Funeral Director, Ford would paint the car black at the factory as a special order.

Black was not a colour available to the general public for the EF-EL models. If it were there would be a whole heap of them out on the roads.

Cheers

Black became optional on the Fairlane Concorde, I believe, in late '98 as the paint shop was being tooled up ready for the AU. I'm pretty certain the colour is silhouette.
You often get colours crossing over at the model change.

That is a very valid point.

It should be J4 Black Pearl Metallic indeed, for NF/NL. The colour was specified by funeral companies when ordering the car.

Late NL will be Silhouette, the AU colour. Late EL/NL was available in a few AU colours as they prepared for the AU to be produced, such as Galaxy Blue and Amaretto. I have an EL built in Feb 98 and its Galaxy Blue. A few colours overlapped.
