I have recently bought an EB1 5L Fairmont Ghia and noticed on the drive home that at 110klm the tacho was sitting on 2500 rpm. This seems about 500 rpm too high. Can anyone advise if this normal or I have a problem.
Thanks. |

It does seem a little high, chech what diff gears you've got, they might be 3:7's or 3:9's, which will make it rev harder at 110km/hr.
I have the V8 with 3:45 diff gears and that sits on about 2200rpm i think at 110km/hr |

Hrmm, when I had auto with 3.23 gears it was more like spot on 2000rpm at 110km/h. Maybe you have different diff gears fitted?
What speed can you get out of first? |

The diff is std 3.27 and I don't think the auto has been changed.

What speed can you get out of first? Yeah thinking about it, its probably around 2000rpm with an auto. The trans is going into 4th isn't it? Also see if you can feel the torque convertor lockup? Otherwise as offyaguts said, you may have 3.7 or 3.9 gears in there. |

Whan you come off throttle you can just feel it lock up and the revs drop a bit. Also if you are cruising at 110kph under light throttle, slowly give it more throttle and you should feel it unlock. Its often called fake fifth gear, its just like a very subtle gear change. |

my EDV8 fairmont 5.0L with 3.27 diff @ 110kph was 2000 rpm.
I changed diff last week to LSD 3.7 and now @ 110kph revs are 2400 rpm. Check diff. Richie.

I have checked diff and tag says its 3.27, the auto seems to be working o.k , selects 4th and Torque converter locks and unlocks etc.
Possible faulty tacho? Also can anyone tell me which pins on diagnostic connector the test LED can be connected to get fault codes. My EB has the test connector next to the master cylinder. Thanks |
