I need some help before i put a hammer through my panel.
im trying to get the struts off the boot so i can put new ones in and i cant for the life of me get the side thats behind the seat out... any suggestions or ideas? cheers |

The bolsters have one bolt at the bottom, remove that, then remove the cover on the seat locking pin, you can then unclip the top by pushing it up.. no hammers are required. Once that is done then you can unclip the c clip from the strut with a small sflat bladed screw driver and it should then be free to be removed from the pivot ball.

sorry mate you've lost me.. Ive taken out the clip of the bottom part of the strut which is connected to the boot. I've then taken out the corner part of the seat which gives you access to teh strut which is behind the seat. but due to the limited space im unable to get in there and take out the other clip..
also when placing the new ones in do i need to take out the clips or will they just be able to be clicked in? cheers |

Pull back seat out to see bolt.On a side note, I replaced my sons struts a month ago.Those Ford cheap skates used bolts to secure the bracket behind the seat on the passenger side and left the other side to held by spot welds.So you can work out what happen when new struts where put in

You can just pry them off with a large scew driver without damage to the mounting. With the new one just pry the clip out far enough so the end will slip over the ball then push the clip back home to secure it.

I used a skinny flat screwdriver and just got it under the clip and levered it out the way etc.,

We just ripped mine off by hand.... took a bit of effort but nothing broke

My boot made a noise then didnt stay open, found out was the mount had come off on the drivers side. So off came the bolster and drilled holes into the mounts and body of boot and reattached with 6mm bolts and a reinforcement plate on the boot side. Bloody hell, what a stupid design. At least now i know its easy to change the gas struts when i have to. Passenger side mount though hasnt been reinforced as yet. 4 hours of work and all well. Damn stupid cordless drill battery was dead so took longer then expected. f**k /end of my rant Exact same thing happened to me. Many lost hours over that one!! But i had no idea it was only the Passengers side that was welded and drivers side was bolted! Good to know!

I think it was a matter of they were both welded, coming out of ford, just one side had already been fixed.
