Hey guys,
I noticed today a small amount of coolant came out of my water pump behind the pulley - it was a one off, by the looks, drove the car maybe 10 times since and have checked very closely and not one drop since. I know that there is a weep hole in the nose of the pump but the weird thing is that hole, which is facing upward, is dry... is there another one 180 degrees away (i.e. at the bottom where I can't see) or has it come from the front?

I know the easy way out would be to replace the pump but the pump was replaced maybe 18 months ago, which kind of intrigues me as to why it leaked...none before now, and none since...

Any ideas?

mate i am fairly sure that there is a second hole in the pump on the underside . but if you say the pump was replaced not to long ago . i would prob look at the heater hose were it goes into the block . the metal pipe rusts away n need replacing from time to time .

probably the bottom hole in the pump, might be able to see it with a mirror.
u can get a soluable? oil for the cooling system that helps rejuvinate the seals in them,

Haven't had a drop of leakage since so I'm not worrying overly about it..I was just a bit annoyed cos I had only just had my back brakes rebuilt and noticed this straight after...

Pressure test the cooling system if your worried.

yeh, good idea CGH - I'll use my handy dandy home invented method! A few years ago had to find a pinhole leak in a radiator, and I know the normal method involves a handpump/guage thing that fits on where you'd normally put your radiator cap - but I don't have one, so what I did was remove the top hose, cut an old mountain bike inner tube to the same length as the hose , making sure to include the section with the valve, install to place of the hose with hose clamps, then simply pressurised with a bike pump (hint, don't use a compressor !! - cooling systems are only designed for 10 - 15 psi..)
