Hey everyone,
I'm currently weighing everything up with my EF fairy.. see she's got the old blown head gasket and I'm tossing up between a N/A rebuild and a low boost turbo setup... something in the vacinity of 5-7psi. The main quetion i have is... What if i plumbed the turbo straight over to the b/b manifold? I know that it's going to run hotter than normal but will it be really significant? Would a simple water injection setup combat this at all? Would this cause any other major problems other than heat? I'm just thinking that doing this would be such a quick and easy installation... no cutting & trimming... just bolt it on! (of course there's the oil return but that's about the worst of it!) Cheers

Although your running on low boost, without an intercooler, you still run risk of pre detonation not to mention less power as hot air is less dense. If you can bolt everything up alright, an intercooler shouldn't be a big problem for ya, even easier if you decide to move your battery to the right hand side of the car and intake on the left. pick up 1 of those eBay intercoolers.

Capa do a good fitting water injection kit for these sorta models. It's what they use on there high boost supercharger kits as oposed to intercooling.

with a good well setup cold air intake i think it'd be fine.

I had a feeling it was a TSA kit that i'd originally seen. Looks like i'll be contacting CAPA and looking into bonnet vents! Fingers crossed it won't pre-detonate and also pass emissions and engineering tests! Anyone done this kind of setup in NSW?
Thanks heaps for the input guys. Cheers!

it should be fine, but you will have to retard the timing a fer bit. and if u retard the timing your emissions will be crap. i would be using some chip or ecu to be able to get it runing with good emissions and no detonation.
ill just add that there is no such thing as pre detonation. its ether pre-ignition or detonation. they are 2 diffrent meanings

I remember the regs on epa testing to be hugely controlled.
Dont know if the epa will let you use it but: Detonation? - 50/50 water and metho / methanol mix, (half and half will not light to a flame)

These won't help if ECU or tune is really bad.
More fuel must be added to compensate for the extra air.. Mainly controls intake temps.. You can fairly much copy parts these guys use... http://www.coolingmist.com/ http://www.snowperformance.net/ http://www.alcohol-injection.com/

7 psi would be ok without an intercooler or water injection, but it really isn't all that hard to fit a front mount to the car, and would give a good improvement to power.
