Evening all. Read the announcement at the top of this topic and this doesn't really fit the description given. Any hue, Here it is :Test drove 06 bf xt.The fault engine light on the dash stayed on. We looked up the fault in the manual , it referred to a catalytic converter fault. The exhaust note is more grunty sounding than standard. 1st, Dont want to buy a car thats seriously damaged, 2nd Would like to get fault light off, 3rd Would like to keep exhaust note [ 1st really] . Quick cheap fix or stay clear ?
Thank you |

get them to get it scanned by the local Ford dealer to narrow down the fault code

The MIL light comes on when there is a fault with the emissions system.
It's usually trying to say that the second oxy sensor after cat is detecting the the post cat emissions are not what is expected by the ECU. So its assuming the cat is possibly buggered. If the original owner has changed the cat (or even punched the cat), this would be the most likely cause. Maybe the cat has collapsed which may cause the problem. |

bf onwards has issues with fitting sports exhausts, in that they set of the mil light due to readings being out of the computers scope. is it a stock exhaust or a sports job? if sports it will need to be flashed to remove the light, or it may run a bit rich. ask ford to flash it to check for the exact code so you know whats up with it.
