He guys, this might sound dumb but. .
Can you use the vacume side of a boost gauge to check? I have these rich/s**t idle issues at the moment, I hooked up a boost gauge and it shows a constant 11 InHg at idle, reading the rest of this thread, that would be a bad thing right?

Can you use the vacume side of a boost gauge to check? yes... eg: my std cam at idle was 20inhg.. after fitting a different cam the vac had dropped to 16inhg. so straight away the map sensor read less vacuum and the ecu thought it was at partial load and increased fuel, and it then ran rich and hunted like a b**ch.. nothing a custom tune cant fix!! |

I have have a street fighter engine built by jim mock in vic installed in my 1995 ef ford auto, the engine has a dev 4 cam kit and the motor idles like crap and surges until 1500rpm or so and runs fine for the remainder of the rev range until it drops below 1500rpm again coming to a stop. This engine behavour only started since the engine install.
theres no smoke, all eletronics replaced under the hood / except ecu, all timing set correctly, vacuum lines all connected/no leaks. i have been advised a 1500.00 + ecu piggy back system could resolve the problem.??? problem could also be a low vacuum due to the cam and that a well placed vacuum canister could also help the vacuum reserve or something like that. Any ideas please????????? 1995 EF GLI Ford Sedan Street Fighter 6cyl with Dev 4 Cam Kit Pacemaker Comp Headers Redback 21/2 sports exhaust |

Beeksy, have you checked your brake booster for cracks/leaks?
Easy to forget about the other side of the engine bay when looking for vac leaks. A dodgy PCV could also cause the low readings. I've heard 'start ya bastard' is a good tool for finding vac leaks. It will cause idle to rise. |

I found the fix, I sold it. I now got a BA one tonne ute so I'm laughing. I think it came down to just a tired motor.
